Omasairaala Oy will be a hospital for outpatient surgery, specialising in the examination and treatment of orthopaedic diseases and injuries. The hospital will be founded in Helsinki andit will begin to operate in early 2013. Omasairaala Oy will focus on the examination and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases and injuries. Harri Aho will act as the hospital's Managing Director, and Markus Torkki, M.D., will take up his duties as the hospital's Chief Medical Officer in early September. The operating theatre capacity of the new hospital is planned to accommodate annually some 7,000 outpatient surgeries. Guaranteeing quick access to treatment is in everyone's best interests Annually, some 700,000 Finns are injured at home or during their leisure time. Each year, road accidents and other accidents cause more than two million days of sickness absence. Investing more in the prevention of accidents and ensuring quick access to treatment and rehabilitation would reduce the number of lost working days significantly. "Top-quality service is at the core of our operations. This means starting the right treatment as soon as possible. Our objective is to take care of our customers in the best possible way, from the accident until recovery. Quick recovery is also beneficial to employers and the society," says Harri Aho, Managing Director of Omasairaala. Services of the new hospital available to everyone Omasairaala Oy is owned by Pohjola Insurance Ltd, which holds a significant market share of the non-life insurance business in Finland. Partnership with Omasairaala will supplement Pohjola Insurance Ltd's partner network of 160 medical centres and hospitals currently in charge of the treatment of Pohjola Insurance Ltd's customers' diseases and injuries. "Omasairaala's orthopaedic services will be available to everyone, and we will not limit the access to hospital services only to Pohjola Insurance's customers," says Managing Director Harri Aho. Central location and good connections essential in choosing the hospital building The final decision regarding the hospital building has not yet been made, but we already have several alternatives. Markus Torkki, M.D., will come to Omasairaala Oy from medical centre Lääkärikeskus Dextra and take up his duties as Chief Medical Officer in early September.
